Artwork Synopsis:
The Derwent Valley, characterised by its picturesque landscapes and rich historical significance, attracts tourists from across the globe. Visitors are drawn to the region's natural beauty, heritage sites, and diverse outdoor recreational activities. Among its notable attractions is Mount Field National Park, one of Australia's oldest preserved natural landscapes. The valley is home to distinctive Tasmanian wildlife and flora, including rare native species and some of the tallest trees in the world. Its diverse terrains feature stunning lakes, snow-capped peaks during winter, and breathtaking waterfalls, while also serving as the traditional land of the indigenous Leenowwenne peoples of the Big River district.
The town centre features some of the oldest pubs in the area, adding to the region's charm. The hop industry has historically played a vital role in the Derwent Valley's economy, establishing it as one of the most successful hop-growing regions in the Southern Hemisphere. Additionally, the valley is home to award-winning microbreweries, micro distilleries, culinary schools, and fine dining establishments.
I have created a whimsical painting titled "Goodnight, Derwent Valley," which beautifully captures the stunning Southern Lights, also known as the aurora. The artwork features the valley, leading towards the Derwent River, complemented by a bridge and vibrant wildflowers. The harmonious colour palette utilises cooler tones, enhancing the clarity of the night sky, adorned with stars and the gentle glow of the moon.
The ‘Goodnight Derwent Valley’ painting is an exclusive painting that can only be found at the ‘White Wallaby Gallery & Derwent Valley Visitor Information Centre’, located at 33 Burnett Street, New Norfolk or online – email the Shemi or Ngaire at team@whitewallaby.net.au for assistance.
Painted 26th of September 2024.
